Our national motto has long been that ours is a government of, by, and for the people, but over the last several decades, people have lost their collective power to neoliberalism and an ideology that says business always knows best. As a result, corporations now direct every facet of our government’s activity, from Big Tech helping our intelligence agencies to spy on and censor free Americans; to Big Pharma controlling the CDC, NIH, and FDA; to the weapons manufacturers fomenting for-profit war and blowback abroad. Transparency and trust in our government can be restored only through a robust culture of dedicated civil service. The revolving door between industry and government must end and whistleblowers must be protected.
